Andrew Say
Andrew Say It's a lovely fluffy idea.
A bit of bartering is cool, but it is very primitive and cumbersome.
Money is the best part of the best barter system of them all....See More

Patricia Vaive
Patricia Vaive I used to barter services in high school. I cut hair for help with math homework, or for hand hemming a skirt, Later as a young bride, I bartered machine sewing or babysitting for help ironing or vacuuming. Some people are just better at some things than others, and some people hate to do certain tasks.

Grantley Dickinson Not true, you can tax it. In Australia is it a taxable transaction based on the value attached to that transaction. But Bartercard is an example of how it would become monetised

Page Gerrick Denny Umm...have you read any books about the Middle Ages? Rulers taxed the people all the time, by confiscating whatever the good was the person produced. And they largely lived in bartering economies.

Jerry Guisinger That's only true if you are bartering informally... if you use a barter exchange, and you have earnings that can be valued, they'll tax you.

Kyle Fern
Kyle Fern The problem is if i make clothes and you sell lettuce, well i dont want lettuce so try to find another item to trade for or another service. The only reason money is used is so that you dont spend an entire day running around to buy 1 shirt. I get that its not the worst idea and all, but the barter system has more flaws than what we do now

Edward Bishop I think you could still work out a tax system with bartering. The government could contract charity stores like vinnies and anglicare to swop or obtain items like a penalty when u did a transaction. A party like the greens would like that. You mow a lawn the householder gives u a meal and u get 'taxed' a kitchen table. it also helps environment.

Lionel Guy Unfortunately they already covered that loop hole. The only thing that is not legal is failing to claim bartering on your taxes. Treat all trades as you would cash transactions. Any barter transaction is reported on Schedule C, Profit or Loss from Business Form 1040.
